The North
Wales Coast Spring Gala 1999
This was not a planned event
but an influx of unusual class 37s enforced by the temporary withdrawal of the
regular fleet for checks. Unless stated otherwise, all photographs were taken
at Bangor.
Thursday 20th May
Having heard the news from Charlie's site and not knowing how long our new visitors
would remain. I sneaked out of the office on Thursday and was just in time to
catch 37 216 arriving with the 08:10 Birmingham New Street to Holyhead
service. A half-hour wait rewarded me with 37 402 Bont y Bermo, formerly
a coast line regular, with the 10:48 Holyhead to Birmingham New Street.
All this was too good
to miss so I worked through lunch and returned to see 37 216 return
east on the 13:54 Holyhead to Birmingham New Street, seen below emerging from
Belmont tunnel past the signalbox.
I then sprinted to the far end of platform 2 for another shot
