I called in at Bangor to photograph the 08:17 class 47 Wales and Borders departure,
only to find platform 1 occupied by the Holyhead to Euston which should have
left at 07:50. A few passengers had left the train to stretch their legs while
others remained optimistically on board.

43 123 was the leading power car. 175 106 arrives with the Chester to Bangor
stopper, but look at the green light for the up fast - is the 47 going to
miss out Bangor?

Yes! 47 778 The Duke of Edinburgh's Award powers past trailing power car 43
121. Normally this service is busy with schoolchildren from Anglesey alighting
for Bangor schools but luckily this was half-term week.

Everybody is off now, the HST having been declared a failure

The problem affected only the leading power car so the set was able to return
to Holyhead to clear platform 1 for 175 106 which would form the 08:37 Bangor
to Manchester
