As is my custom, I called into Bangor Station on my way into work, leaned
my bike against the brickwork and anticipated the arrival of the two 37 hauled
trains due to depart at 08:23 and 08:25. 37 413 came and went on the
07:06 Chester - Holyhead but there was no sign of the eastbound service. The
monitor switched to 08:45 and it was apparent that all was not well. Then
came the announcement that the 08:25 was cancelled due to a locomotive failure
at Llanfair PG.
I'd been thinking about
calling in at Llanfair PG to shoot these services!
So off I went to work but sneaked out at 10:15 to check if there'd been any
developments. Apparently, the Virgin 47 waiting at Holyhead to take the Euston
service had been commandeered to push the fNW train out of the way but by
the time I returned, 47 705 Guy Fawkes had arrived from Chester
to handle the rescue mission.

This is the first time I'd ever seen a train occupying this section of track
by the former Bangor motive power depot - when was it last used?

The culprit is revealed as 37 426
