Locomotive Llanberis

Snowdon Mountain Railway

No 5 Moel Siabod climbs out of Llanberis. This is one of the pair built in 1896, the year the line opened and a year after the first three engines. The engine is always at the lower, Llanberis, end so there's no danger of the coach running away - the coach here is one of the original set, built in 1895 by Lancaster Carriage & Wagon Co.

The line runs past the depot, so if you walk round the corner into the overflow car park you can watch the trains come and go while observing the steam engines being prepared for their next duty. This is a very busy scene in high summer. No 4 Snowdon, dating from 1896, is in the picture.
